Since GoldMine Premium 9.x now supports Microsoft SQL Server 2012, and since many customers have been operating on older versions of MS SQL , firms are starting to consider an upgrade of their MS SQL. To help with that choice I’d like to offer this list of benefits that I’ve put together from an outside sources on the advantages/benefits for upgrading to MS SQL 2012.
In April 2012, Microsoft announced the release of SQL Server 2012. So what’s new with SQL Server 2012? Well, there are a lot of enhanced and new features in the SQL Server 2012 editions. But generally speaking, the following features make the 2012 edition a whole lot better than the previous versions.
SQL Server 2012 offers you the ability to quickly create and scale solutions that offer you new business opportunity from server to private or public cloud. These are all linked together for optimized productivity allowing you to build once so you can deploy and manage whenever, wherever.
The latest release of the SQL Server Database Engine introduces new features and enhancements that increase the power and productivity of architects, developers, and administrators who design, develop, and maintain data storage systems. SQL Server 2012 adds new capability for decision support and data analysis. There are new features and enhancements in areas of deployment, management & troubleshooting, performance, and data quality.
1. Improved Visualization of your Data
A new web-based data presentation and visualization feature called Power View. Power View, formerly known as Project Crescent, can help business owners and decision makers get better insights fast and easy. With Power View you can extract live data into PowerPoint presentations, saving you time and ensuring up to date information for every meeting. This feature enhances your visualization and interactivity with your data, giving you easy access to the company’s data, allowing you to quickly make business decisions, and it does this all within one browser.
2. Improved Data Quality
Our clients regularly need help with their data quality, an on-going challenge in many organizations. SQL Server 2012 has significantly reduced this problem by improving the accuracy and consistency of the data. It does this by cleaning the data itself resulting in excellent quality and on-going maintenance. Master Data Services and SQL Server Data Quality Services are new or improved tools for data integration and management that deliver consistent, credible data at the right time.
3. Excellent Performance
SQL Server 2012 greatly improves your query performance by thousands of times. It does this through fast, interactive exploration of your data, allowing you to get even more business value, even quicker, thus resulting in faster and more accurate decisions.
4. Mission Critical Confidence
SQL Server’s new disaster recovery solution helps to protect your infrastructure whilst reducing planned and unplanned downtime. It delivers maximum application availability and data protection, ensuring you have the performance you need, at the right price, especially for mission critical workloads. The Analysis Services will also sport a new feature: Business Intelligence Semantic Model, a three-layer standard that brings together data access, business logic and data model. The new feature will entail a lot of improvement in the Reporting Services, SharePoint Insights and Excel. The BISM centralizes all BI applications: reporting, analysis, scorecards and dashboards.
